GPRDA Organizes Workshop on Material Handover for Local Charities

Ghion Peace, Reconciliation, and Development Association (GPRDA) organized a half-day consultative meeting to discuss the distribution of humanitarian aid to two local charities in Gondar city: Kalen Benakafil-Home for the Elderly Orphans and People with Mental Disability, and Mena Elderly and Mentally Challenged Support Center on May 18, 2024 in Haz Hotel, Gondar City. The event was attended by four representatives from local charities, GPRDA staff, USAID/OTI Ethiopian Support Program representatives, and nine local peace actors.

During the workshop, it was noted that the procurement of materials was carried out in close collaboration with the USAID/OTI Ethiopian Support Program Bahir Dar Coordination Office. The humanitarian aid materials were purchased following the funder’s procurement procedures. GPRDA staff managed the procurement process by contacting suppliers and selecting materials. Local peace actors also took part in the procurement, consultative workshop, and material handover activities.

The workshop included discussions on the necessity of humanitarian aid and its connection to local peacebuilding efforts. According to GPRDA representatives, the humanitarian aid program aims to increase the visibility of local peacebuilding initiatives by involving them in the provision of support to local charities.
