Ghion Peace Reconciliation and Development Association (GPRDA) organized a recognition and honoring program for 27 peacebuilders from the Nebaru Chilga and Chilga woredas, and Aykel town, who made sacrifices in peacebuilding on April 27, 2024. The recognition program aimed to honor peacebuilders who made sacrifices for peace, thereby increasing the peace builders’ effort multiplier effect for peacebuilding, improving the confidence of local communities in peacebuilders, and enhancing the place and role of local peacebuilders.
The recognition program included a panel discussion on the role of peacebuilders and informal institutions in conflict prevention, peacebuilding, and social cohesion. The panel also highlighted the historical relationship of diverse communities in the Chilga area, the invaluable sacrifices made by selected individuals for the community, and the need to recognize such contributions.
