Ghion Peace, Reconciliation and Development Association (GPRDA) organized a three-day training on Conflict Prevention, Management, and Resolution (CPMR), peace dialogue facilitation, and non-violent peacebuilding skills for youth and women from Gondar, Dabat, Debark, Maytebri, and Dima towns. The training was delivered in two rounds from November 16-21, 2024 at Nu Hotel, Gondar City.
Even though women and youth are the largest demographic groups in Ethiopia, their role in peacebuilding and their voice in peace talks are severely limited. Additionally, cultural conflict resolution institutions in Ethiopia, particularly the Amhara Shemglina system, provide little space for women and youth to participate in conflict resolution and peacebuilding initiatives. Thus, GPRDA, in partnership with USAID, organized the training for 58 youth and women to strengthen their abilities to participate in peacebuilding and peace advocacy activities.
The participants expressed their satisfaction with the training content. They stated that the training would help them play an informative role in their future deliberations, promoting social cohesion between intra- and inter-regional communities. At the end of the training, the participants developed a post-training peacebuilding plan of action and a communication plan to follow-up and implement peace activities in their respective communities.
