GPRDA Backs Peace Initiative with Peace Oriented Theatre in Aykel Town

As part of GPRDA’s Peace project aimed at bridging social divides and enhancing trust, mutual respect, and social cohesion to foster lasting peace and stability in Aykel town, GPRDA enabled the production of a Peace-Oriented Theatre. The theatre was produced and performed by 20 trained students from two schools and has been presented to more than 1,500 students from Aykel Preparatory School and Aykel General Secondary School, as well as the entire school community.

The theater performance lasted about 1 hour and 20 minutes, including poems and dances by students. The content of the theater includes the peaceful coexistence of diverse communities in the past, the occurrence of conflict initiated by conflict entrepreneurs, the initiation of peace efforts, and later the reconciliation and forgiveness ceremonies. The production of the theatre is part of GPRDA’s goal to bridge social divides between the Amhara and Qimant communities by using theatrical art that integrates peacebuilding and conflict prevention assets.
