Ghion Peace, Reconciliation, and Development Association (GPRDA) successfully conducted a two-day capacity building training for local peace actors at Haz Hotel from April 13-14, 2024. The training brought together key peace council members who serve as local resources for peacemaking, conflict resolution, peacebuilding, and violence prevention. The aim was to enhance the capacity of local peace actors and revitalize their activities to mitigate the impact of the ongoing conflict in Gondar City.
The training was delivered in two sessions by experienced experts in conflict resolution and peacebuilding. Prior to the training, a comprehensive manual was meticulously prepared by hired consultants, covering essential aspects of conflict resolution, peacebuilding strategies, and the role of informal institutions.
A total of 95 participants attended the training, representing various groups such as women, youth, elders, and religious leaders in the community. Their diverse backgrounds enriched the learning environment and facilitated meaningful exchanges of knowledge and perspectives.
The two-day training sessions were held in three halls over two consecutive weeks. The training was highly successful, featuring in-depth discussions, practical exercises, and interactive learning experiences. It established a foundational understanding and encouraged critical thinking among participants, who actively engaged in group discussions on topics such as the structural causes of conflict, conflict resolution strategies, and the role of informal institutions.
